Our Philosophy

ST. PETER YOUTH BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION

PRIMARY GOALS: FUN FOR ALL

  • Skill development for each player.
  • Sportsmanship and introduction to competition.
  • Development of team play.

4TH GRADE GOALS: INTRODUCTION TO THE GAME

  • Emphasis on having fun.
  • Begin development of basic basketball skills.
  • Equal participation for whoever attends.
  • Attendance at practice is very important to skill development.
  • Team may participate in two tournaments/jamborees.
  • Team may scrimmage with area teams.

5TH GRADE GOALS: INTRODUCTION TO COMPETITION

  • Continue basketball skill development.
  • Equal participation in all league games and tournaments for those who regularly attend practices.
  • If numbers permit, we will have more than one team in the league.
  • Team may participate in four tournaments.

6TH GRADE GOALS: ADVANCEMENT OF COMPETITION

  • Continue basketball skill development.
  • Equal participation in all league games for those who regularly attend practices.
  • Quality participation in tournaments, however, this does not necessarily mean equal playing time.
  • Those who regularly attend practice will have the opportunity to dress for tournaments, however, some tournaments may require limited rosters.
  • If there is more than one team in a tournament, rosters for tournaments will be at the coach’s discretion.
  • Team may participate in five tournaments.

7TH & 8TH GRADE GOALS: COOPERATION AND ADVANCEMENT WITH MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM

  • Continue basketball skill development.
  • No league play, tournament play only.
  • Tournament play may be during Middle School schedule.
  • Practice participation and ability level will determine amount of tournament playing time. Equal playing time is not priority.
  • Each player may attend tournaments, but is not guaranteed playing time.
  • If there is more than one team in a tournament, rosters for tournaments will be at the coach’s discretion.
  • Team may participate in six tournaments.
